2024 David Sykes
David R. Sykes was nominated to the West Virginia Hunter Education Hall Of Fame for his continued service to the Hunter Ed program. For over 20 years he has been an outstanding instructor in District IV, serving as lead instructor for his team of 7 instructors. He works closely with the RTO and the DNR to get classes scheduled, supplies ready, certifying thousands of students throughout his teaching. Any time his RTO needs something, he can be counted on to assist in any way possible. Always willing to assist and fill in if needed when another instructor couldn’t make a class; rescheduling his work schedule to be available. He was selected as District IV in 2012. He has been committed to the Hunter Education Program, as well as many other ways serving the public.
• Graduated High School 1983 • Served in the Army Reserve 8 years • Worked Private Security the Government • Worked for the Virginia Dept. of Corrections • Married in 1996 has 2 children, 1998, 2000 • Member Clintonville Volunteer Fire Dept., serving as Chief 20 years • Worked Federal Bureau of Prisons FCI Beckley, transferred to FCI Alderson • Firearms Instructor, Former CPR instructor, Disturbance Control Instructor • Started teaching HE in 2002 • Served as Cub Scout Master 6 years Pack #53 • One of 3 Camp Instructors for Greenbrier County Scout Day Camp • Quadrated for DNR officers to present demonstrators for Day Camp • Member Clintonville Puritan Club, President 2020 - 2023 • Member Greenbrier Masonic Lodge • Member Greenbrier Valley Shrine Club • Currently a school bus driver, Greenbrier County Schools • Has 2 grandchildren (2021, 2022
